The Fragadelphia series is one of a few premier tournaments held on
the east coast of the United States. It is a good experience for amateur
teams trying to gain some experience on LAN and pro teams to likely to
win some easy cash with lesser opponents. Previously in Fragadelphia 6,
Torqued won the 1st place prize while the most recent Fragadelphia, the
old Complexity managed to scrape out a W in the finals.
Fragadelphia this year has managed to increase its prize pool from
$12,000 dollars last tournament to $15,000 this one. The tournament will
be featured this weekend from May 20th to the 22nd (This schedule also
interferes with the SL i-League Invitational and the MLG American Minor
qualification for the upcoming major). The maximum amount of teams
competing will be 32, featuring group play and a double elimination
playoff bracket (Winner’s bracket will be a best-of-three format while
loser’s bracket will be a best-of-one elimination).
The maps that are being played in this tournament are Dust 2, Train,
Nuke, Overpass, Mirage, Cache, and finally Cobblestone. It will be very
interesting to see if we get our very first look at some teams trying to
implement Nuke into their map pool. Be on the lookout for this because
with somewhat low risk and most teams being under experienced with the
new map, we might just see it pop up a few times this weekend.
Although the group brackets have not been released, there are a
number of confirmed teams that are looking to add some extra cash to
their pocket this weekend. The likes of a couple Premier and Main teams
accompanied by other unknowns that will be looking to make a name for
themselves. Some teams that may be recognizable are Echo Fox, (With the
use of two substitutes) Rival, Tectonic, Savage Gaming, VexX, ACE, Bee’s
Money Crew, and the Foundation. A list of the other teams competing can
be found at Fragadelphia.com under the “Frag 8” tab.
The prize pool distribution of the $15,000 will be:
1st place- $8,000
2nd place- $3,500
3rd place- $2,000
4th place- $1,000
5th place- $500
The matches will not be streamed on twitch which may hinder their
viewership, but if you would like to check it out the matches will be
